About Caroline

With spectacular MS sunsets, Caroline is a quiet community that boasts swimming, tennis, fishing, dining, clubhouses and exclusive neighborhood activities.

When you enter our community, you will soon come upon the beautiful 835 acre private lake which is our most notable and beautiful feature. Caroline is a place that offers peace and tranquility after a long day on the job. Our quiet community witnesses the most spectacular sunrises and sunsets, bursting with colors that light the sky and provide many photo opportunities. The wide array of birds, those that live on the lake and the ones passing through, grant unique views of the scenery, including the American Bald Eagle that occasionally visits.

From covered porches at our clubhouses owners enjoy magnificent views of our lake and beautiful sunsets. Both clubhouses include swimming pools and decks that overlook the water. Owners can access either clubhouse from the lake along with boat slip parking. The clubhouses serve as a gathering place for many neighborhood activities or for privately held gatherings.

At the Bellevue clubhouse, there are lighted tennis courts and a children’s play gym area and children’s swimming pool. There is a grassy area for flying kites, playing Frisbee or running around with the kids. The clubhouses, swimming pools and tennis courts are all card-key accessible.

HIstory

Over 50 years ago in the late summer cotton was blooming and beginning to open across all the acres now occupied by Lake Caroline and its surrounding subdivisions. This land was part of the 4000 acre Ricks Plantation, one of the last of the big Madison County cotton plantations that were operated on the old tenant farming basis.
In 1820, Benjamin Sherrod Ricks came to what is now Madison County and settled on the 4000 acres. The plantation remained in the Ricks family until 1945 when it was sold to Tom Riddell of Canton. Riddell farmed the big place until 1951 when he sold it to W.E. Bedford of Texas, who moved with his family to Canton. Neither Riddell or Bedford occupied the impressive two-story mansion built in 1855 but it is remembered that many barbecue parties were held at the old home called Bellevue which today is the name of one of the clubhouses at Caroline. In the spring of 1955, remaining acreage of the 4000 was sold to T. Thomas Taylor of Chicago.
The groundwork for Caroline started in early 1988… the Caroline vision was to develop 3000 acres of what was considered “farmland” into a large, private lake development. In the summer of 1988, construction began and development focus was placed on a phased approach and involved preservation of trees, vegetation and as much natural structures as possible. The goal for Caroline was to be a place where one could get away from the everyday stress of life and enjoy nature, family and friends. A goal in which we believe has become a reality.
